Ron Paul: It Can’t Happen Here
The “extreme” Presidential Candidates on both the Republican and Democratic side seem to make the most sense than some of the more mainstream candidates. Take a look at Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul two guys that have diametrically opposing views, but they both pretty much agree that the current course on the “War on Terror” is not good. Ron Paul makes a good argument about the slowly encroaching Police State that we are encouraging our Government to form out of fear of Terrorist.
…proponents argue, the government is doing all this to catch the bad guys. If you don’t have anything to hide, they ask, what are you so afraid of? The answer is that I’m afraid of losing the last vestiges of privacy that a free society should hold dear. I’m afraid of creating a society where the burden is on citizens to prove their innocence, rather than on government to prove wrongdoing. Most of all, I’m afraid of living in a society where a subservient populace surrenders its liberties to an all-powerful government.

It is a HUGE deal that we are surrendering our liberties out of fear. You should never make a decision out of fear. That’s why we should plan ahead. In spite of my concerns about Ron Paul’s plan to abolish income tax (how does he propose to convince people that it’s not the Gvmt’s job to take care of them?) and the Federal Reserve (how will he ensure that the money I have saved doesn’t end up being worth more as toilet paper?) I love his small government philosophies. If I heard a reasonable answer to those two questions (From his campaign, not just from his supporters posting on the internet), he would probably have my vote. Right now, all I can say for sure is that neither Guilliani nor Romney have my vote.
