The Apprentice is one of the few TV shows that I have been watching. It was one of my guilty pleasures watching Mr. Trump have some successful reality show wannabes suck up to get a job with the Trump organization. When the show first came out it had some very good merits. It was a cheesy reality show, but it helped to teach a lesson. Each show would feature an insight into who would get fired when “The Donald” would do a quick 30 lesson on a business tip of the week. That tip was the one thing that would be the undoing of that week’s contestant.

Watching the contestants run through tasks is entertaining, but tedious. You would see a certain amount of insight into the thought process and usually the teams would somehow come up with opposite approaches.

George and Caroline were Trump’s close advisors who would bring in years of experience as Trump’s close business advisers. They helped to ground the show since they were actual Trump employees taking time out of their work schedule to help on the show. The best part would be when George or Caroline would be out on a business trip. That helped to bring some sort of reality to this reality show.

Each season the show started slipping. The tasks seemed redundant. The cast of characters did not leave the same impression as Amarosa or “stare down” Sam. They were loud mouth “successful” Type A personalities who wanted a little fame and to work for Trump. The sycophantic acts were almost sickening, but the show held together and was intriguing to watch.

(The show has always had a certain amount of sex, but this year the use of Playboy, swim wear and such comes off as desperate plea for ratings.)

Now it comes to season 6 and the show moves to Los Angeles California. The move to Hollywood has helped to remove what little reality there actually was to the show. The substance was replaced with gimmicks and it does not play well. The show is almost unwatchable.

Caroline and George are no longer there. They are replaced by Ivanka. She is great to look at and comes off as smart. But something seems off having a father daughter combo go off on people in a boardroom. The other adviser is the leader of the winning team which is more reality show gimmickry.

The losing team has to live in a tent on the lawn of the Trump mansion, and the camera angles and tasks seem to focus more on sex than usual. The show worked because it had enough of a mix of reality gimmicks and some light business lessons to make it somwhat informative. The blunders of the contestants where inspiring since you would think. I could do that, or I would do it this way.

But all of the business insight is now gone replaced with more gratuitous views of Apprentice hotties. The recent reward was a trip to the Playboy mansion and next week the Laker Girls have to battle the losing team who is already living in a tent.

Trumps 30 second business lessons are long gone, now we have Trump say he has a great body and might wear pink swim trunks.

Needless to say I only watched the second episode just to give it another chance. I don’t know if I can last it out a whole season watching the latest Apprentice. Needless to say the ratings are down and the show does not look like it will regain anytime soon.
This may be the last season for the show.
