C5 Doing Low Flying Maneuvers

December 3rd, 2006

Driving down 481 in Syracuse I spotted a very low flying C5 military airplane. It looked like it was about to land and then aborted, but it turns out that they were doing special maneuvers in the area. It was quite a site to see such a large plane fly right over the car. My wife was able to span a few pics of the plane as it flew around. I was busy driving.

The pictures do not the justice to just how low the plane was flying. Darn zoom on the camera.

Here is a news story from 9WSYR

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) Many of you have called us asking about a low flying plane circling near Hancock Airport. Air Traffic tells us it’s a military C-5 transport plane doing training.

The Watch Supervisor says it is a 105th Airlift Wing out of Newburgh, New York, getting their monthly proficiency training. He says the plane is flying over roughly a 10 mile radius around the airport.

You may have seen the plane if you were near the Great Northern Mall, in Syracuse, Cazenovia or on the Thruway, 5 miles west of airport.

The training began around 11am and was scheduled to be finished around 12:30pm.
