Arrr! Happy International Talk Like a Pirate Day Matie!
Today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day Matie. Arrrr!
Avast, here be background info on the lingo:
Ahoy! – “Hello!”
Avast! – Stop and give attention. It can be used in a sense of surprise, “Whoa! Get a load of that!” which today makes it more of a “Check it out” or “No way!” or “Get off!”
Aye! – “Why yes, I agree most heartily with everything you just said or did.”
Aye aye! – “I’ll get right on that sir, as soon as my break is over.”
Arrr! – This one is often confused with arrrgh, which is of course the sound you make when you sit on a belaying pin. “Arrr!” can mean, variously, “yes,” “I agree,” “I’m happy,” “I’m enjoying this beer,” “My team is going to win it all,” “I saw that television show, it sucked!” and “That was a clever remark you or I just made.” And those are just a few of the myriad possibilities of Arrr!

Alpha Romeo 8C: Momma Mia Che Bellezza!

The beautiful Alpha Romeo 8C concept will be shown at the Paris Auto Show in a few weeks. The 8C marks the return of Alpha Romeo to American shores. The 8C is a collaboration etween Alpha Romeo and Maserati both of which are under the main corporate umbrella of FIAT which includes the other legendary naem of Ferrari. Much of the design influence of Maserati can be seen if you compare the 8C to the Quattroporte and other Maserati delights. But the strongest resemblance is to the Ferrari 599 Fiorano coupe, The Alpha looks a bit more rounded than the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano.

Felippe Massa Monza Qualifying Lap
It doesn’t look like Massa was blocked on his qualifying lap in Monza. Can’t complain about the result though, it is the best way for Schumacher to announce his retirement, after a big win at Monza. It will be very odd next year to see Kimi in the Ferrari stable with Massa. The last time Ferrari had a Finn driving was Mika Salo in in think 1998 when Schumi was out for a few races due to the brutal crash at Silverstone.
Part Apollo, Part 787

The new Orion space ship is going to bring Astronauts back to the moon. The design is based heavily on 1950s Apollo mission designs fromthe Saturn V rocket to the capsule and landing module. NASA picked the design over other basically because it has a better safety track record since it works no matter what fails. Even though the design is retro, the Orion will feature new technology that will make Buzz Aldrin jealous.
Path to 9/11: Should it be Accurate?
And if they didn’t intend to make it historically accurate to make sure
that viewers understood that it was not intended to be historically accurate but a fictional portrayal. So we made two requests: One is having historians review it for accuracy if you’re going to broadcast it. And if you’re unwilling to do that, inform the viewers that it’s not historically accurate. That’s not censorship, that’s common sense.
– Ed Gillespe, RNC Chairman — Scarborough Country, 11/6/2003 (via Lexis)
In 2003 there was a big stink about a Reagan docudrama that CBS ended up dropping. The docudrama took the same liberties that the “Path to 9/11″ docudrama allegedly takes with Clinton and dealing with Osama bin Laden. The point is that docudramas should make every effort to portray events as accurately as possible. Taking liberty with events and not portraying them accurately is a disservice to the American public. Plus, very few will ever try to get to the real truth. Right Wingers were completely justified then in demanding a fair portrayal of Reagan just as Left Wingers are justified in demanding the same for Clinton.
