Transformers Movie: Megatron Revealed

August 25th, 2006

Drawings of Megatron for the Transformers movie have been released and he is not a gun. Looking more like Predator than the old Megatron from the 80s cartoon this version looks very menacing. Little by little details of each Transformer are coming out giving a good idea of the direction they are going with the movie. The look is a bit of a departure from the 80s style, but thesew

Megatron looks like a predator, i prefer the 80s version, with the head like a nazi soldier. Megatron 80s version looks more a leader, this guy looks how the ugly boy. without offense anybody.

I second Rafael’s sentiment. The irony is they were trying to make the Transformers seem more “realistic”, but have instead turned them into something completely unbelievable:
The 80s Transformers looked like machines built for war - they were big, boxy, well-armoured and still looked like they could move at speed. They carried obvious weaponry and had relatively simple transformations. They looked like giant metal humans (or facsimiles of other Earth creatures), but this was later alleviated by the revelation that they were literally created by God in his image.
The 2007 Transformers look less human, but still look far too humanoid to be the product of pure “evolution” on another planet. They are thin, spindly, have exposed gears and wiring, and have “shard” transformations that would break down with the first hit. They certainly don’t look like battle-ready machines - if the 80s Transformers looked like tanks, the 00s Transformers look like hang-gliders. You might argue they’re built with impossibly tough materials, but if you’re going to invent magically stable trans-uranic elements to make your giant robots out of, why suddenly turn around and say you aren’t going to include size-shifting because it’s too unbelievable?
