Top 10 1980s TV Show Intros
The 1980s were my formative years, so the television shows of that era stick with me like old friends. Some shows are around in syndication and they are easy to remember, but others didn’t quite have the same mass appeal. Here is my list of top ten 1980s TV Shows with the intro from YouTube of course.
10) BJ and the Bear.
The honky tonk song about travelling on the open road with a monkey and not paying property tax may have borrowed a bit from The Who’s “Goin Mobile”. All I remember about the show is that there was a monkey in it and that may have a little bit to do with naming this site Astrochimp, or maybe not.
9) Quincy Long before CSI, Quincy was solving crimes using forensic medicine. I love how the intro switches from serious to “sexy” with the music. First Jack Klugman make cops faint when he reveals a corpse and then investigates a woman in a bikini on his boat.
8) The Muppet Show
It’s time to get things started.. why don’t you get things started. Here is one with Mark Hamill. The big show intro with all of the muppets singing and dancing including the muppet filled audience is priceless.
7) Sledgehammer
In the same line as Police Squad and Police Acamdemy comes this hilarious show about a bulndering cop who is in love with his gun. The show was brilliant, but I barely lasted one year. Trust me I know what I’m doing sums up the show perfectly.
6) Mork and Mindy
Robin Williams, Pam Dawber and the suspenders. Robin Williams introduced to the world for better or worse.
The opening “Nano Nano” as Mork speeds to earth in an egg sums up the backstory nicely.
5) Greatest American Hero.
One of the catchiest songs of the 80s. It was sugary sappy corny and addictive like heroin. “Believe it or not I’m walking on air.”
4) Love Boat
One of the most memorable songs of all time. When I was a kid I totally missed the numerous amounts of sexual innuendo in the show.
3) Fantasy Island
The plane boss, the plane, enough said.
2) The A Team
The entire A Team backstory is summed up in just a few seconds, followed by explosions and things getting smashed. Plus, a reference to Battlestar Gallactica as Faceman was also Starbuck in that Sci-Fi chestnut. Who could forget Mr. T, he basically was the show.
1) CHiPs
The intro is simple, just show Ponch and Jon patroling the highways of California with one of the coolest theme songs. Have a few closeups of the motorcycles and you are done. Ponch’s reaction when he gets his closeup sums up the character perfectly.
