How to Eat Less

June 7th, 2006

Jeremy Zawodny lost 50lbs with the help of a spreadsheet and a few simple dieting tips. Some of the tips included breaking the idea of eating when you are hungry and stopping when you are full. It is a drstic change to try and eat smaller portions more often since many of us are simply used to the notion of eating until we are full. I have gradually tried to do this and it has helped to some degree. In fact a few weeks ago during a large meal I was surprised to have that “overfull” feeling again. It was something that I did not experience for a while
and did not like experiencing since I felt bloated and uncomfortable.

After thinking about why I always ate a bit too much, I finally realized it was a problem with my physiological empty/full gauge. If I eat until I feel “full” I’ve probably eaten too much. And, worse yet, I end up feeling sluggish for an hour or so after eating. You know, the “food coma.”

Next up, I will try to lose about 30lbs to get into better shape, lose the gut and become a faster bike racer. I have debated with myself about showing my progress on the site as extra motivation. I might pop in a “before” pic to make myself commit.
