Where the Hell is Matt?

June 22nd, 2006 Uncategorized

Check out some guy named Matt dancing the same dance all over the world.

Matt is a 29-year-old deadbeat from Connecticut who used to think that all he ever wanted to do in life was make and play videogames. He achieved this goal pretty early on and enjoyed it for a while, but eventually realized there might be other stuff he was missing out on. In February of 2003, he quit his job in Brisbane, Australia and used the money he’d saved to wander around the planet until it ran out.

Net Neutrality: This is serious

June 22nd, 2006 Uncategorized

Tim Berners-Lee has a writeup on what Net Neutrality is all about.

Net neutrality is this:

If I pay to connect to the Net with a certain quality of service, and you pay to connect with that or greater quality of service, then we can communicate at that level.

That’s all. Its up to the ISPs to make sure they interoperate so that that happens.

Net Neutrality is NOT asking for the internet for free.

Net Neutrality is NOT saying that one shouldn’t pay more money for high quality of service. We always have, and we always will.

There have been suggestions that we don’t need legislation because we haven’t had it. These are nonsense, because in fact we have had net neutrality in the past — it is only recently that real explicit threats have occurred.

Who Said It? Hilter or Coulter

June 21st, 2006 Uncategorized

A rare dip into the political, but this quiz is very eye opening. The recent remarks by an infamous political pundit were clearly remarks to stir up controversy and sell more books. Even bad publicity is publicity isn’t it?

Not paying attention to much of the cacaphony of the talking heads it is surprising to see how difficult it was to separate comments made by one of the most evil men of all time with a political pundit making the rounds.

Is the two party system causing folks on either end to go to such extremes? It does not matter so much what the issues are as much as someone trying to win the quick two minute debate on Fox News or Hardball. In the effort to get viewership or sell books the pundits have to go to extremes to titilate and get reactions.

One of the definitions of pornography is the depiction of acts in a sensational manner so as to arouse a quick intense emotional reaction

So is this genuine political discourse or are we simply looking at politoporn?

As with looking at porn one will grow tired of the soft stuff. Sure, it was exciting once, but now you need more action, we need to move to the harcore stuff. Just take a look at the hardcore politporn that all of this punditry has produced. We get conspiracy theory of all colors coming fom the left, while the right moves to outright fascism. What the hell happened to America where we have a hard time decifering what a political pundit says vs what Hilter said 50 years ago?

Anyway, take the quiz.

Wrecked Exotics has pics of the new Lamborghini Murchielago LP640. This is a car that is in pre production as it is an evolution of the Murchielago but with more horsepower and faster accelaration.

There have been two crashes of the LP640 on public roads since the introduction of the car in March. Production version will be available in September, so these crashes are highly unusual.

Net Neutrality

June 11th, 2006 Uncategorized

Astrochimp gets political with the issue of Net Neutrality. What is Net Neutrality?

Info from savetheinternet.org:

Congress is now considering a major overhaul of the Telecommunications Act. The telephone and cable companies are filling up congressional campaign coffers and hiring high-priced lobbyists. They’ve set up “Astroturf” groups like “Hands Off the Internet” to confuse the issue and give the appearance of grassroots support.

On June 8, the House of Representatives passed the “Communications Opportunity, Promotion and Enhancement Act of 2006,” or COPE Act (H.R. 5252) — a bill that offers no meaningful protections for Net Neutrality. An amendment offered by Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.), which would have instituted real Net Neutrality requirements, was defeated by intense industry lobbying.

It now falls to the Senate to save the free and open Internet. Fortunately, Sens. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) and Byron Dorgan (R-N.D.) have introduced a bipartisan measure, the “Internet Freedom Preservation Act of 2006″ (S. 2917), that would provide meaningful protection for Net Neutrality. This excellent bill may be introduced as an amendment when the Senate takes up its own rewrite of the Telecommunications Act later this summer. The next key hearing of the Senate Commerce Committee is scheduled for June 20.

Call Congress today: No senator can in good conscience vote against Internet freedom and with the telecom cartel.
